Copyright Statement
At the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI), we are honored to support educators and students alike. We celebrate teachers—the foundation of our education system—by developing high-quality, effective content tailored to their needs and making this content free or affordable. Our goal is always to empower and equip teachers with the best tools and resources.
To continue offering this level of quality and service, it’s essential that we protect the intellectual property we have created. We take copyright and intellectual property issues very seriously, and copyright law requires that we make every effort to identify and stop unauthorized use of our content. Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that there are many instances of unauthorized use of UFLI’s name and content. Unauthorized use may lead to consequences under applicable laws.

We kindly ask that any use of our content or the names “University of Florida Literacy Institute,” “UFLI,” or “UFLI Foundations” be done only with our written authorization. This helps ensure the integrity of our materials, the value of the materials you have already purchased, and the continued success of our shared mission. Please note that the name “UFLI Foundations” and all related intellectual property are protected by registered copyright. Any unauthorized use, reproduction, or representation of the name or content in any curriculum, program, product, or service is prohibited. This includes marketing or advertising of any such materials.
It is not our desire to get teachers in trouble; however, we do expect everyone to act ethically and within the law, and we are required to act on infringements. So, we have created some guidelines to help you use UFLI materials appropriately—and legally.
Guidelines for Use
You MAY use and adapt the slide decks in your own classroom in whatever way will most effectively meet your students’ needs. You may share these materials with others individually at no cost, as long as you properly attribute the original work to UFLI and clearly state that the materials are adapted from the original. You MAY NOT sell these materials under any circumstances.
You MAY NOT take items posted on UFLI’s Toolbox, YouTube channel, social media, or any other outlet that belongs to UFLI and repost it elsewhere on the Internet for others to openly access. If you want to share UFLI materials, please share links to UFLI’s web site or the original UFLI source.
You MAY NOT reproduce any portion of the UFLI manual in any form. This includes scanning, photocopying, video recording, audio recording, or any other means of reproduction.
You MAY NOT use manual content in materials you share with others. For example, if you are taking the word chains or sentences from the lesson plans and using them in other forms (e.g., worksheets or activities on TPT), this is considered a copyright infringement.
You MAY NOT alter any content from the manual or any material from the Toolbox that is labeled with a copyright notice (e.g., decodable passages). This means you may not use our copyrighted materials to create other materials (e.g., books, fluency triangles, sentence scrambles).
You MAY NOT use our name, our logo, or our brand-specific identifiers (e.g., the “bricks”) to sell or market commercial materials.
You MAY NOT claim or imply collaboration with or endorsement by UFLI. If you have created your own original materials to align with the UFLI scope and sequence, we ask that you clearly state that the materials (a) include only entirely original content and (b) were not created by nor endorsed by UFLI.
You MAY NOT claim or imply that UFLI has aligned any materials you create. Therefore, rather than stating that materials are “UFLI-aligned” (which implies UFLI has aligned the materials), say that the materials were “created to align with UFLI’s scope and sequence.”
This list is not exhaustive, but we hope it provides some basic boundaries and guidelines for using our materials appropriately.
We deeply appreciate you and your commitment to effective instruction and ethical use of UFLI materials. Thank you for working with us to protect and promote our high-quality educational content. We look forward to continuing to serve you!
Sincerely,
Team UFLI
