When we first launched UFLI Foundations in 2022, we knew we needed to support teachers with implementation. To accomplish this, our team conducted and recorded a series of instructional webinars. We posted these on YouTube and made them freely accessible to all.
Since that time, many schools and districts expressed a desire for more in-depth professional learning. To meet their requests, we developed a face-to-face version of the training for groups. This filled a significant need, and over the past two and a half years, we have conducted live implementation training sessions with tens of thousands of teachers. However, individual teachers wanted access to these in-depth professional learning opportunities too.

In spring of 2024 we launched a survey to gauge interest in everything from modes of PD delivery to geographic preferences to the content people wanted to learn about. More than 7,000 educators responded and the input we received helped us to begin envisioning a suite of professional learning opportunities that would meet the needs of a diverse array of educators. The generous support of the William R. Kenan Charitable Trust provided the initial funding to develop, refine, and pilot the concept.
What we learned by listening
The result is UFLI Academy, a suite of professional learning opportunities designed for individuals who wish to enhance their practice with UFLI Foundations and learn directly from the UFLI team. We piloted the concept in summer 2025 with two 3-day conferences in Gainesville, Florida. As with the development of the UFLI Foundations manual, we knew that soliciting and heeding participant feedback would be crucial in creating a program that met the needs of teachers in the highest-quality way possible.
